My Internship... it will soon come....

My first day of internship was really disappointing because I didn't even get to go. Sense I need to have 2 MMP shots, and I only have one, I have to wait another 2 weeks till I get my second shot. The reason I need these is that I will be doing my internship at Scripps Mercy Chula Vista. When working at a hospital you can not get patients sicker than What they already are. So getting shots is a good way to prevent it. I meat my Mentor a couple weeks ago, and I went to the area where I will working. She is a really nice person, and apparently he is very exited of having me, or "someone" to work with her and help her around. The place is obviously very clean and full of Mexicans. I'm really exited to start and I hope it happens soon.

I promise I'll update this post, as soon as I start my internship.

John F Kennedy Speech, and the current events...

John F. Kennedy’s Speech, contradictory to our current news….

Kennedy’s inauguration speech was given on January 20th 1991. His main points during the speech were hope, change and being friends with other countries. This speech definitely reminds me of new president Barack Obama’s inaugural speech. Both men have the same ideals -change and hope for America. They both have expressed this ideals any time they had the chance. The difference between these two men is that, Obama has the dreams of many Americans in his hands, people that trust him, and he also has his future coming. John F. Kennedy hope’s for America vanished away and he no longer had a chance to realize his dreams for this country. His speech is now relevant in the actual days in a very contradictory way to what he wanted to see happening in this country. During his speech he mentioned a few things that are nothing like what he wanted.

Kennedy said during his speech: “remember that, in the past, those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside”

Kennedy was referring to the people that tried to get power in the past and were consumed by it. Obviously when Kennedy was referring to the “past”, he was saying this could not happen any more, at least during his government.

A few presidents later Bush came in, this being his second time as a president and ironically said: "I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it." Since the beghinning he knew what his deals were, and he was going to take advantage of it. This meant that all the power that he had would be completely used and not necessarily to do the best that he could for America, but to do the best that he could for himself. Now after he is gone we can be sure of this because of the way his decisions worked.

He made lots of mistakes during his time in the White House, mistakes that don’t only affect our economy but produce more suffering in the human race. For example, he didn’t quite spend the country’s money in the best way. When it was time to be careful with the money he spent it in some war with Afghanistan, but when the money really needed to be spent because New Orleans needed help during the tragedy of hurricane Katrina, he acted slowly and with non effective ways. The food supplies and buses for people that were supposed to come from him weren’t there on time. Three years later January on 12th Bush admitted at his final news conference as president that Talking about Katrina Bush said: “Could things have been done better? Absolutely, Absolutely”. We all know that, things could definitely have been worked out better. he didn’t act in the best way.

Another one of his mistakes was the entire idea of accusing Iraq for making weapons, and basically starting war. It has been 5 years now, and he still has no proof of that. But he still talks about it as if he was right making that decision. Bush said on January 13th:I am comfortable with what we did and it was necessary to protect the country”. Apparently for him killing people from other countries, and giving away the lives of many Americans is “protecting the country”.

Don’t you just feel like throwing your shoe at him? I am sure John F Kennedy would.

John Kennedy refers to war when he says: “To those nations who would make themselves our adversary, we offer not a pledge but a request: that both sides begin anew the quest for peace, before the dark powers of destruction unleashed by science engulf all humanity”. Kennedy was not planning to have the United States in a war, in fact he had a solution to not get there. But while he asked negotiation and understanding of problems from each country, the country he once was president of invades Iraq, and does not plan to leave until the Iraqi’s government is completely well settled, and that will obviously take time and more lives.

This war brings to our minds a large and important part of it, our America soldiers. When Kennedy refers to the country in his speech he says; “Since this country was founded, each generation of Americans has been summoned to give testimony to its loyalty”. He was referring to how we should all work together to make the country grow, but when hi referred to soldiers he said: “The graves of young Americans who answered to the call to service surround the globe”. Again he was talking about the past, and making it seem as if it would never happen again. Right now many American soldiers have died in the Iraq war and the ones alive are still risking their lives.

John F. Kennedy was full of hope and dreams. He was planning to leave everything in the past and move on, no more war, no more “selfish” politics. Everything went away and was erased from American minds, but the hope now is born again with Obama.

Obama's ignauguration speech....

"We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus-- and non- believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth...".

I choose this section because I relate to 2 parts of this quote. First the christian part. I believe in Jesus and I base my personal life in that, and even though we all think that we are right and we wish that everyone else would believe in our own "religion", the truth is I don't see humanity going to the same church any time soon.
So when it comes to working as a team or building up a country spending time fighting about our believes is not a really smart thing to do. Obama describes our differences, and not only describes us as a nation, he describes us as a "diverse" nation. Not only because of our believes but when he talks about this country being "shaped" by different cultures.

I identify with the "culture" part of the speech because even though I was born here, I lived most part of my life in Mexico, and I know that my culture comes with me, and can be an influence to my American friends.

Now if we count the number of people that immigrate every day to this country and pay attention to the impact this people have to the American culture, will see how much it has change through the years.
When my dad was little he would eat "dinner" at 7:00pm, but when he grew up he married a Mexican women and even though he lives in the states, he eats his big meal, "dinner" at 3:00pm. Things in American life change, when a different culture comes in. The culture will never stay the same.
And Obama having an American Mother, African dad, and an Asian sister obviously understands cultures better than any other president.

1 outline of artist statment

Thesis: Desmond Doss and John Lennon lived for the same thing: “peace for all the people”, but they expressed it in two different ways, art and war.

1 Paragraph

- Desmond Doss

When I stared this project I was looking for a great soldier that died in the battle field or that had give his life to save someone else’s. Instead I found something better, the story of a great man, a soldier out of the ordinary. His name was Desmond T. Doss, he was a soldier during World War II. But there was something different about him that made him………, he saw the opportunity of destroying for peace as an opportunity to restore what was being destroyed. He had certain believes that made he’s world wider than the other ones. He didn’t believe in killing, his reason to be in the battle field wasn’t to destroy, but to save. Doss risked his life to save the life of other 75 soldiers, he went to the front line of the battle field and with out a single weapon to defend him self he carried back fallen soldiers and used he’s medical tactics to save them. Even though for some he might be the complete opposite of what a warriors do because instead of hurting he healed, I believe that this man never need a gun to prove that he was a real warrior, someone that fought for his dream, peace.

Include (religious thoughts)
Paragraph 2
-picture and transition to John Lennon
In my piece of art you can see Desmond Doss with his honor medal. The tombs represent other American soldiers that risked their lives like Doss did, but they didn’t make it. The words in the tombs are a quote from a song written by John Lennon, “Imagine”. I think the quote “nothing to kill or die for” is the one that best represents Desmond Doss because he believed in peace with out murder.

Paragraph 3
-John Lennon
This song also represents well the believes that John Lennon had.

Paragraph 4
-Quote and song, meaning (things going on in that time)

Paragraph 5
Conclusion
Despite there differences Demond Doss and John Lennon had at least the most important thing in common, what they lived for, peace for all the people.

One of Bush's controversys: "The enviroment"

The entire idea of Bush turning into one of the "most conservation-minded presidents" clashes with the very clear mistakes he made in the past. The article written by Katharine Mieszkowski "Bush's seven deadly environmental sins" has a very detailed list of the errors that Bush has done. For example "refusing to agree to mandatory greenhouse emission reductions", or the fact that he never developed well clean energy sources.
The author accompanies every "sin" with a solution proposed by Obama. And it also proposes ideas for Obama of how to not repeat the same mistakes, when she says: "Obama should develop a national task force" or "Obama should order the EPA to issue a waiver to California".

While this article focuses in Bush's mistakes and how Obama will fix them, Juliet Eilperin's article "Bush to protect three areas in pacific" talks about how great his idea of protecting three areas in the pacific is, and while every one else sees this as Bushes first well done act tors environment, Eilperin mentions "Bush's 2006 decision to create the papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument in Hawaii and other smaller designations". But she also recognizes the mistakes he made "he has resisted imposing mandatory curbs on greenhouse gas emissions".
The facts of this controversy are layed out in many different ways, for example the great articles by Miezkowoski and Eilperin, it is now up to us to decide whether Bush forgot that he's against healthy environment or he simply wants to have a little more privacy when he goes fishing in the pacific.

Internship...

1. What do you hope to learn or discover about the "adult" world of work while you are at your internship?
I want to discover if it's really as hard as they say it is, and learn from areas I need to work on, in order to one they be part of this "adult"world and not feel intimidated by it.

2. What do you hope to learn or discover about yourself and your identity while you are at your internship this semester?
I want to discover how much can I handle and see how open I am to new things, and of course I would like to know if being a nurse i really what I want to do for life.

3. What goals do you have for yourself for your internship experience?
Learn how to handle a "job" and school at the same time, determine if being a nurse is really an option for me, learn how to make a project on my own and learn how to work with a team, in a social environment.
